Our Story

Allenden Seeds is a proud family owned and operated establishment.

The Allenden's have been in the farming industry for generations, with Sydney's father being a real pioneer in the Mungbean industry in the Callide Valley.

The original grading shed was established in 1978 by young Sydney Allenden purely to grade his own Mung beans. A young farmer, struggling to make ends meet, he saw this as a way to help cut his costs. At this time there was no government legislation and virtually anyone could grow, pack & sell mungbeans.

In 1991, the business became registered with the Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS).
A small operation until 1999, the year 2000 saw a major upgrade to the facility. This included a new grading shed & plant, installation of more gravity tables & storage, bringing the on-site storage capacity to over 4000 tonnes. In 2011, Bagging & Palletising was upgraded and automated in conjunction with a state of the art robot. The addition of the new technology allowed the business to ramp up its output significantly, with ability to put through 5 containers or 5000 bags per day. Allenden Seeds now employ permanent staff year round and more casual staff in Mung bean season to help with the workload.

Sydney's family are involved in all aspects of the business - with his son Clint managing the operations of the grading shed, his eldest son Trent looking after the day to day running of the farming operations and wife Charmaine handling the book-keeping.

From humble beginnings, the business has gone from strength to strength, and now services growers from all over the local district and surrounds - some from as far afield as Springsure, Dysart.

Today, Allenden Seeds continues to evolve, with more projects in the pipeline. The one thing that remains unchanged though, is the commitment to growers and their needs.
